  1.                      Winsock RSHD Remote Shell Daemon 1.2

  5. Winsock RSHD is the Windows Sockets version of the Unix Remote Shell Daemon.
  6. It accepts requests from remote hosts (Unix or other PC's) via the standard
  7. "rsh" command and executes them on the PC running Winsock RSHD.  It also allows
  8. file copying to and from the PC via the standard "rcp" command.
  9.  
  10. A special "SendKeys" extension allows some remote control of Windows programs
  11. through the standard "rsh" command, even from Unix.
  12.  
  13. Security can also be enforced by specifying which hosts and/or users can access
  14. the PC through Winsock RSHD.
  15.  
  16. Files can be copied to and from the PC via "rcp" from Unix hosts or other PC's
  17. on the network.  Remote copy support includes support for wildcard copies and
  18. recursive copies of entire directory trees.
  19.  
  20. Winsock RSHD works with most Windows Sockets compatible TCP/IP stacks.  It has
  21. been tested with the following TCP/IP packages:

  26.            Novell LAN Workplace for DOS Version 4.2

  29. If your TCP/IP stack does not include the "rsh" and/or "rcp" utilities, you can
  30. use Winsock RCP/RSH, available also from Denicomp Systems.  These are Windows
  31. Sockets versions of these two utilities.

  33. To experiment with Winsock RSHD, use PKUNZIP to uncompress the distribution
  34. file.
  35.  
  36. Then use File/Run from the Windows Program Manager menu.  Enter the drive and
  37. directory name that contains the uncompressed files, followed by "SETUP".
  38.  
  39. For example, if you uncompressed Winsock RSHD into the directory C:\RSHD,
  40. type C:\RSHD\SETUP.
  41.  
  42. Select a target drive and directory to install to and click on OK.  It should
  43. NOT be the same directory in which you uncompressed the distribution file.

  45. The Winsock Utilities group will be created.  Icons will be in this group for
  46. Winsock RSHD, the Winsock RSHD Configuration program, and with options to
  47. view/print the order form and the manual for using Winsock RSHD.

  50. SHAREWARE
  51. ---------

  53. Winsock RSHD is shareware.  You can try it for thirty (30) days.  If you find
  54. it useful, you can register it using the order form included.  If you do not
  55. wish to register it, delete it from your hard disk or pass it along to a
  56. friend who may find it useful.

  58. By registering, you will receive the latest version of the product,
  59. printed documentation, and support via US Mail or Compuserve.

  61. The shareware version of the product is fully functional except for the
  62. following:
  63.  
  64.    * When you execute a command via "rsh" from a Unix system, Winsock RSHD
  65.      will return a message about Winsock RSHD not being registered, which will
  66.      display on the Unix terminal from which the command was initiated.
  67.  
  68.    * At random times, Winsock RSHD will require you to click on an "OK" button
  69.      when a command request or remote copy request is received.  Winsock RSHD
  70.      will pause and wait for you to click on "OK".  This will also cause the
  71.      "rsh" or "rcp" command on the requesting host to pause.  Once "OK" is
  72.      clicked, Winsock RSHD will complete the request.  No other requests will
  73.      be serviced until then.

  75.      This will NOT occur more than once per hour (or not at all if you get
  76.      lucky!!).

  79. PRICING

  82. An order form is provided in this package.  If for some reason it is not there,
  83. Winsock RSHD can be registered for $34.95 in U.S. Dollars.  Please send a check
  84. or money order drawn on a U.S. bank.  Credit card orders are not currently
  85. accepted, however you may register through Compuserve's registration service.

  87. Please include $5.00 for Shipping and Handling for orders in the U.S.  For
  88. Canada and Mexico, include $6.00.  For other countries, please include $10.00.

  92. Winsock RSHD can also be registered via Compuserve and billed to your
  93. Compuserve account.  The SWREG numbers is: 4256

  95. When registering via Compuserve, if you would like the product to be distributed
  96. to you via Compuserve's electronic mail, please send a message stating this to
  97. 71612,2333 after you have registered (Compuserve's on-line registration does
  98. not currently provide this as an option).  The package(s) you select will be
  99. sent to your Compuserve mailbox.  However, you will not receive a printed manual
  100. when using this method.  You can print the manual included in the distribution
  101. on your printer.

  103. MULTIPLE USER LICENSING
  104. -----------------------

  106. When Winsock RSHD is registered, it is licensed for use on ONE PC at a time.
  107. Special multiple license pricing options are also available.  Pricing is on a
  108. per-PC basis.  For 2-10 PC's, $30 per PC.  For 11-20 PC's, $28 per PC.  For
  109. over 20 PC's, $25 per PC.

  111. Payments for multiple user licenses must be sent via mail.  The Compuserve
  112. online registration system is not set up to handle multiple pricing levels.

  137. Related utilities also available from Denicomp Systems are: Winsock RCP/RSH,
  138. Winsock RCMD.DLL, and Winsock RCP.DLL.

  140. Winsock RCP/RSH are the Windows Sockets versions of two utilities normally
  141. found on Unix systems.  They work with any Windows Sockets compatible TCP/IP
  142. stack, including Microsoft's TCP/IP for Windows for Workgroups.  Both RCP and
  143. RSH are included in the package.

  145. Winsock RCP, or Remote Copy, copies files from your Windows PC to a Unix
  146. system, from a Unix system to your PC, or between two Unix systems.  You can
  147. copy individual files or recusively copy entire directory trees.
  148.  
  149. Winsock RSH, or Remote Shell, runs a specified command on the Unix system.
  150. Any output of the command can be displayed in a window or can be directed to
  151. a file.

  153. Although Winsock RCP/RSH are command-line oriented programs (but do require
  154. Windows), also included are Visual RCP and Visual RSH, which are simple Windows
  155. interfaces to the two commands.

  157. For Windows programmers, also available is Winsock RCMD.DLL and Winsock RCP.DLL,
  158. which are Dynamic Link Libraries (DLL) callable from almost any language that
  159. allows DLL calls, such as C, C++, or Visual Basic.

  161. Winsock RCMD.DLL provides a function similar to the Berkeley Sockets "rcmd"
  162. function for Windows Sockets.  This provides the ability to initiate Unix
  163. commands from within your Windows program and capture any output from that
  164. command.

  166. Winsock RCP.DLL provides a function that allows you to copy files to and from
  167. remote hosts from within your programs, just like the Winsock RCP command.
  168. It also includes the recusive copy capability.

  170. Example programs are provided for both C and Visual Basic.
